Le Iene hunting for the two fake doctors – Le Iene a caccia dei due falsi medici

Following my participation to the TV show “Le iene”, I been asked if I was interested to produce more shows with them. As “Le Iene” is a humorous investigative journalistic TV show, I did try to prepare a story on how two doctors have been working at the hospital for decades without ever getting a university degree. The news reported on my work.

Criminals not Hackers – Criminali non Hackers

The word “hacker” had initially a positive connotation, identifying an enthusiast, someone curious that could discover new ways to use things. It has later taken a negative connotation, indicating a cybercriminal. When someone uses simple scripts found online to “deface” websites (replace the home page with a political or hate message) annoys me to see the term “hacker” used. In this article I try to explain the difference between hacker, cracker, and script kiddies…

So They Earn on Naivety – Cosi Guadagnano sull’Ingenuità

A small article I wrote for a national newspaper on an online scam targeting internet users and mobile phone users. The download of ringtones claimed to be free ended up costing users thousands of euros on their phone bills.

Il mondo inter-musicale lanciato dai Lagash

Can Midi (the data protocol between musical instruments and a computer) travel via Internet? In this article I tell the story of a music band that had a jam session over the internet way before video calls were a thing 🙂

Sex tourist “expelled” from The USA – Espulso dall’america turista del sesso

As the Internet underground started splitting in two groups (the vigilantes and the villains) in this article I narrate how someone looking for illegal material has been “kicked out” from the usenet groups he was in.

Here’s who will conquer the earth – Ecco chi conquisterà la terra

This article, that I wrote in 1997, gives me shivers when I read it now. I describe quite perfectly someone as Mark Zuckerberg and the effects that something like Facebook can have, as if I predicted Cambridge Analytica scandal 22 years in advance!

Searching to see if there is Mestre? We are mentioned 1087 times – Cercate se c’è Mestre? Ci siamo per 1087 volte.

I had to produce an article every week for the newspaper “Il Gazzettino”. I wasn’t paid. It was a way for me to get known more, and for the newspaper to show a reach to technologies and the Internet. As I am not a journalist, it has been also a great exercise for me to write, and to think what to write about. This article talks about how many times the city I am from is mentioned in the Internet. Something that nowadays requires a simple Google search that would return millions of results, but back then there was no Google, and very few results…

Finally a fully Venetian Intranet – Finalmente un intranet tutto veneziano

At the time that Intranets were more common that Internet (due to the slow speed of the Internet and the fast speed of the Intranet), someone thought to make a public Intranet that extended to all the province of Venice. So I did interview them for my newspaper article. I did also try to explain Internet routing to the public. Had they got the concept? Not easy to explain complex topics with simple analogies…

Stroll around Venetian’s small pathways while you are in your pajamas – Passeggiare per le calli rimanendo in pigiama

At age 22, one of my first articles for a newspaper. The topic being the Internet and me having grown up in Venice, Italy, I wrote about an online 3D Venice. I also wrote how people could get websites for free, rather than paying a lot of money for local hosting providers, and a small glossary of this new terminology that soon would become daily language.

Classified ADs – Annuncio

While this is not properly a magazine article about or by me, it is a very nice find. Dated May 1986, is an ad I placed at age 11 in a magazine for electronics, to trade cartridge software of my computer for a memory expansion! More explanation in the blog post!
